AlburyCity Land Management Incentive Program

The conservation of our natural environment relies on a landscape-wide approach, in which private land conservation complements the work that Council and other government agencies carry out across public lands. Here in Albury around 66% of the environmental management zoned land (C3) is under private ownership (Figure 1). Many of these areas and rural zones contain important patches of box-gum grassy-woodlands (threatened ecological community), habitat for a range of local threatened species and significant connections to Albury's public reserve system, allowing wildlife to move through the landscape.Due to the significant amount of environmental assets located across private lands, the AlburyCity Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) requested that Council investigate ways that they could better support private landholders and community groups to protect and enhance these values. A range of options were discussed and put forward but an incentive program that provided support for on ground activities was selected.
