The dataset contains information on coral fertilisation success from three manipulative field experiments conducted at two locations: One Tree Island (Great Barrier Reef) and Ngermid Bay (Palau). At each site, a patch of gravid adult colonies was arranged at 3–4 m depth (One Tree Island: Acropora cf. tenuis and Acropora digitifera; Ngermid Bay: Acropora hyacinthus).
During spawning, eggs from a single colony were placed in 250 µm mesh containers and floated within the generated gamete plume. Containers were tracked for over 60 minutes by research vessel and then retrieved. Water samples for in situ sperm concentrations were also collected during the tracking period. Samples were fixed and later analysed in the laboratory. Each collection point was georeferenced.
