The fire history dataset is a historical record of mapped bushfires that have occurred throughout Tasmania. It forms a critical input into the evaluation of bushfire risk and potential throughout the state. Analysis of past fires assists authorities during prevention, mitigation and suppression of bushfires.
The fire history dataset is comprised of two feature classes: 'Fire History' and 'Fire History - Last Impacted'.
The fire history records from individual agencies are appended each year into the 'Fire History' feature class. 'Fire History' is a cumulative history layer with overlapping areas where multiple fires have impacted a single region.
The 'Fire History - Last Impacted' feature class is derived from 'Fire History' and identifies the latest fire having occurred at any location across the state. The 'Fire History - Last Impacted' feature class does not contain any overlaps.
